Soil mechanics is a branch of Engineering mechanics which focuses on stress-strain relations of soil materials. It provides the theoretical basis and quantitative research methods for geological effects in geology engineering. Soil mechanics can be used in civil engineering, transportation, water conservancy engineering. Soil mechanics is a compulsory professional course for civil engineering. soil mechanics contains the basic knowledge that the civil engineering students should learn for the following professional course.

The "Soil Mechanics" course contains a total of 40 theoretical teaching hours and 8 experimental teaching hours, totaling 2.5 credits, starting in the spring semester.

Soil mechanics is a discipline that studies the law of stress, strain, strength, stability and seepage in soil under load. Therefore, in order to ensure the safety and normal use of geotechnical structures, we must learn to analyze the stress, deformation, strength and stability and seepage in soil, which is also the main task of soil mechanics. The purpose of studying soil mechanics is to apply the theory of soil mechanics to guide the calculation, analysis, design, construction and maintenance of geotechnical structures.
